Homemade Basil-Infused Olive Oil is an easy and flavorful way to elevate your dishes. With its vibrant green color and intense basil aroma, this oil is perfect for drizzling over salads, pasta, grilled vegetables, or even fresh bread. By using a simple heat infusion method, you can extract the basil’s natural oils while preserving its fresh and earthy flavor.
Ingredients
- 100ml chilled olive oil
- 100ml olive oil for heating
- 1 ½ cups fresh basil leaves, cleaned and dried
Instructions
- Prepare the Basil & Olive Oil:
- In a small saucepan, combine the basil leaves and 100ml of olive oil.
- Heat gently until the mixture reaches 60°C (140°F) (do not boil).
- Blend the Infusion:
- While the basil oil is warming, place the remaining 100ml of chilled olive oil in the fridge.
- Once the warm oil is ready, blend it together with the cold olive oil in a blender for 1-2 minutes until smooth.
- Strain for a Clear Infusion:
- Line a fine-mesh strainer with cheesecloth or a coffee filter.
- Pour the basil-infused oil through the strainer into a clean glass bottle.
- This will remove any solid bits and give the oil a smooth, clear finish.
- Storage & Usage:
- Store in a sealed glass bottle in a cool, dark place or in the refrigerator.
- Use within 20 days for the freshest flavor.
Tips for Success
- Use high-quality olive oil for the best taste.
- Do not overheat—high temperatures can destroy the basil’s delicate flavors.
- Experiment with herbs! Try combining basil with garlic, rosemary, or chili flakes for a unique infusion.
